A bit about me
Hey! I’m Brendan (DJ Kelso). Yeah, Kelso is my last name. Just like Scrubs and That 70s Show.
I was born and raised in Newcastle (Newwwyyyy), but I live in Sydney now with my wife and labrador “Wesley”. He’s currently on a diet because apparently he’s gained some weight.
I’ve been involved in music since a young age. It all started in primary school when I learned the clarinet and attended band camp. Fast forward a few years, and I’ve been a full-time DJ and MC for more than 10 years. I literally have the best job in the world.
what type of music do you play?
I’m an open-format DJ. This means I can cover most popular genres of music (e.g. pop, house, rnb, hip hop, EDM, country, rock, white girl bangers, etc).
Because of my background in music, I’m also very familiar with some alternative genres (e.g. emo, pop-punk, metal, etc). Like, if you request “dear maria count me in”, I’ll probably join you on the dance floor.
As a singer, I’d say my voice sits really nicely in modern country, folky acoustic kinda vibes. I also don’t mind throwing in a few girl pop covers, with my own twist.
What's something most people don't know about you?
I have two uni degrees (B Comms and B Laws). They’re currently gathering dust.
Favourite place to travel?
My wife and I love a good deal…so I’ll probably say south east Asia! Can’t resist the food either!
Simpsons or Family Guy?
Both are great. But golden era Simpsons is untouchable.
Sport?
Yeah I’m pretty much a bogan from Newcastle. So I’m a big fan of the NRL, and unfortunately I follow the Knights.
Favourite part about your job?
It’s definitely the feedback I get from my couples and their guests.
1 tip for people planning a wedding?
Comfort! For yourselves and your guests. For example:
Is the ceremony in direct sun? Bring umbrellas and water. Also, don’t forget your sunscreen. I’ve seen some red faces in my time haha!
Are you wearing heels? Bring a pair of comfy shoes to change into later.
Do you have a big wedding dress? Bring a party dress for dancing.
Try not to have a big gap between the ceremony and reception. Your guests will get tired and probably leave early.
Remember, everyone has their limits. Keep people comfy and happy, and your wedding will be so much better.
